Allergy to cosmetics is a frequent phenomenon. It can appear unexpectedly. Redness, peeling, itching and other symptoms occur due to the content of certain components in cosmetics. Excluding them, you can avoid these unpleasant consequences.
Allergies can cause both synthetic and natural ingredients. Of the synthetic, the reaction is often given by fragrances, preservatives and aggressive dyes. Among the natural are the essential oils. Often the cause of an allergy is not the component itself, but its concentration. This should be taken into account when choosing care products.
Allergy is a hyperactive response of the immune system, caused by contact with an allergen. Its occurrence indicates the individual intolerance of some component in cosmetics, and not that it is in principle harmful.
  Before
going on sale, any product passes a toxicity test, and its safety must
be confirmed by the declaration of conformity of the customs union (on
the packaging of certified products there is the EAC marking ). However, there are a number of authorized components that can provoke irritation when ingested on hypersensitive skin.
  1. Preservatives
Preservatives are substances that make cosmetics last longer. They often cause allergies. As preservatives used: parabens ( Germaben II , Methylparben , Propylparaben , Butylparaben ), formaldehyde compounds ( Germall Plus , DMDM Hydantoin , Imadozolidinyl Urea , Diazolidinyl Urea ), isothiazolinones ( Kathon ), phenoxyethanol ( Optiphen , Optiphen Plus ), organic acids ( Benzoic Acid / Sodium Benzoate ). In the hypoallergenic cosmetics they should not be. Alternative - natural preservatives: tocopherol (vitamin E), silver, glycolic and salicylic acid.
  2. Colorants

Synthetic dyes are used to make cosmetics more "appetizing" type. Even the white color of the cream does not indicate their absence - it is obtained by the addition of titanium dioxide. In the presence of dyes, the package must be labeled FD & C or D & C and then a license plate. Alternative: carotenoids (give yellow, orange and red colors), polyphenols (red), chlorophylls (blue-green).

  3. Odorants
Flavors are often added in order to smell the main components of the remedy. On the label they are designated by the word Parfum and are indicated by a comma. Of the synthetic perfumes most commonly found: linalol ( Linalool ), citronellol ( Citronellol ). Natural can also provoke an allergy, so those who have sensitive skin, it is better to choose cosmetics without perfumes. |
